On July 17, MAX Laser officially launched the world’s first 160kW ultra-high-power industrial fiber laser in Shenzhen. This groundbreaking achievement not only sets a new global record for the highest power of fiber lasers but also signifies China’s globally leading capabilities in the research, development, and mass production of ultra-high-power industrial fiber lasers.

As a "new essential productivity" for the manufacturing sector, laser technology was incorporated into Shenzhen's "20+8" industrial cluster development strategy as early as 2022. The birth of the 160kW ultra-high-power industrial fiber laser in Shenzhen’s Bao’an District further solidifies China’s position as a global hub for advanced manufacturing.

The launch event was attended by renowned experts and leaders, including Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Shenzhen University Distinguished Professor Fan Dianyuan, Vice Secretary of the Party Committee and President of Shenzhen Capital Group Liu Suhua, Deputy Director of the Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology Tan Dai, Bao’an District Deputy Mayor Zhang Dongyan, Chairman of the Chinese Optical Society's Laser Processing Committee Zhang Qingmao, Deputy Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department at Tsinghua University Zhou Ming, Deputy Director of Bao’an District Science and Technology Innovation Bureau Zhang Xuan, and Deputy Secretary of the Party Working Committee of Xinqiao Subdistrict Xiong Junfeng. They joined Chuangxin Laser’s Chairman and General Manager Jiang Feng to witness the birth of this groundbreaking equipment.

Under the powerful laser penetration, the thick steel plates sparked intensely and were precisely cut into several components with smooth edges.Following the event, Shenzhen’s government officials highly praised MAX Laser for "focusing on the industrial chain, adhering to domestic independence, and mastering the core technology of laser as a new productivity force." It is worth noting that in the development of ultra-high-power products, MAX Laser does not blindly pursue module stacking or increasing output power to create hype by breaking power limits. Instead, the company focuses on clear customer needs for its development process. Before the release of each record-breaking ultra-high-power product, the end customer is already identified, and the product is tailored to meet their specific functional requirements. This 160kW ultra-high-power multimode continuous industrial fiber laser overcomes challenges such as low single-module output power, low damage thresholds of energy beam combining devices, and strong nonlinear effects that limit ultra-high-power output. It also achieves breakthroughs in specialized cutting head technology for ultra-high power, enabling the commercial application of integrated systems. Additionally, it achieves international leading standards in core parameters such as output power, beam quality control, nonlinear effect control, processing performance, and power stability.

In the future, the core component advancements and optical design solutions from the 160kW laser will gradually be applied to MAX’s other multi-kilowatt laser products, including the 40kW, 60kW, 85kW, and the newly launched 150kW models. These improvements will further enhance the reliability of lasers in this power range.

Academician-led Evaluation Confirms International Leadership

On May 15, 2024, under the rigorous testing of the National Laser Device Quality Inspection Center, MAX Laser’s 160kW ultra-high-power multimode continuous industrial fiber laser achieved full 160kW power output through advanced measurement techniques, including commercial ultra-high-power meters, monitoring power fitting, and optical pressure principles. This marked the first domestic achievement of a 160kW full-laser parameter CNAS certification.

On June 4, the China Optical Engineering Society organized a technological evaluation meeting to assess MAX Laser’s “Ultra-high-power Multimode Continuous Fiber Laser—160kW Level” project. The evaluation invited prominent experts, including Academician Fan Dianyuan (laser and optoelectronics expert at the Chinese Academy of Engineering), Professor Ruan Shuangchen (founding president of Shenzhen Technology University), Researcher Hu Lili (Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences), Professor Zhou Ming (Changjiang Scholar, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Tsinghua University), Professor Zhang Qingmao (Director of the Laser Processing Committee, Chinese Optical Society), Associate Professor Chen Xi (Harbin Institute of Technology), Researcher Ma Yunfeng (Aerospace Information Innovation Research Institute, CAS), and Minister Liu Yanju (China Optical Engineering Society). 160KW laser power source

Based on the project documentation and the on-site cutting performance, the expert panel conducted multiple rounds of in-depth discussions. In the end, they unanimously approved the scientific and technological achievement evaluation of the project and awarded MAX Laser a Scientific and Technological Achievement Certificate.

The expert panel unanimously concluded that the overall technology of this achievement has reached an internationally advanced level, with the ultra-high-power continuous industrial fiber laser output achieving international leadership. They emphasized that this breakthrough holds significant importance for advancing China's laser equipment to secure a competitive position in the global high-tech sector.
